Bringing Two Stories of Al Fresco
The Mission in Old Town has been around for a minute now and everyone agrees it’s amazing. But what about the newer Mission at Kierland? Is it as good? Hell, yes!
So Many Fine Dining Options At Kierland Commons
Kierland Commons on Scottsdale Road in North Scottsdale is a mecca of fine dining. With so many places to choose from in North Scottsdale it’s hard to decide where to go. You won’t go wrong at the Mission, because they’ve thought of everything.
Starters To Be Shared
Between the starters to be shared and the table side guacamole, there’s no way you will leave this place without a smile on your face and a warm fuzzy feeling in your belly. All the choices on the menu are excellent ones.
While the free range chicken wings rubbed in a jerk spice, escabeche, smoked chile & serrano peanuts are amazing. The crispy pork and cola lime glaze lettuce wraps with pickled red onion and peanuts are out of the world. Check out the drone view of the lettuce wraps. If that doesn’t make your mouth water….
The Scene
With great music in the background, super attentive staff and an excellent drink menu, this is a great place to go whether you’re by yourself, on a date, or a few of you want to eat before going out on the town. The vibe is sexy, upbeat and fun. You have the option of eating inside or outside on two levels.
They Thought of Everything
As always, attention to detail is what makes or breaks a good meal. When you order tacos, your corn tortillas come out on a giant pink slab of Himalayan sea salt. Although there’s lots of talk about the healing properties of Himalayan sea salt and why you should have some next to your bedside, one thing is for sure, rubbing your hot corn tortillas on the salt before popping one in your mouth sure adds a lot of flavor.
Taco Taco Taco Taco
You don’t have to have tacos at the Mission while you’re there (but you should). The Mission has many other amazing dishes but if you are wanting good tacos you have some options. Let’s see there’s pork, lamb, duck, mahi mahi, skirt steak, chicken, butternut squash, short ribs or brussel sprouts. Why anyone would want a taco out of brussel sprouts when they can have short ribs is beyond comprehension but the vegetarians have options.
Succulent meats
The short rib barbacoa is super filling with the perfect blend of raisins, smoked cashew and short ribs to make it practically melt in your mouth. The size looks small but it’s deceiving, there’s a lot packed into one of these tacos and you may find yourself asking for a to go box.
Pork Shoulder For Two Ready For Shredding
The pork shoulder serves two and is smoked & slow braised for 12 hours, pineapple habañero glaze & 10 hand made corn tortillas. It arrives whole and is shredded in front of you. There’s a video of that too on the DIG Gram.
The Mission is A Win
Whether you choose the older Mission in the heart of old town or the one that’s just under two years old amidst great shopping in Kierland, you will come out a winner. If you want to be a little piggy and eat to your heart’s content, check out Sunday Pig Out! All you can eat pork tacos for $17. It fills up fast though so definitely RSVP.
