Busy Season 2019 Is Here

Wondering what to do this weekend?  Here is a list of the best things to do (a lot of foodie related stuff, too) for the next few weekends in Scottsdale.  Whether you’re a local or a visitor, the choices can be overwhelming.

What Is Busy Season?

Scottsdale is a resort town.  While the rest of the Phoenix metro area may have a lot more residents year-around, Scottsdale is best known for it’s resorts, snow birds and golf courses.  Busy season is when the weather sucks everyone else in the country so people flock to Scottsdale for a relief from the weather.  Consequently, Arizona has done a fine job coming up with lots of cool shit to keep everyone happy and spending money!

How Is The Weather During Busy Season?

Great question.  Who knows. 75° and sunny one day, overcast with a scatter of tiny drizzle at 60° the next day.  Without a doubt, during the months of January and February, there will be some days that are wintery.  Usually, it’s not more than 2 days in a row and it’s rarely more than 10 days over the course of two months.   Expect lows higher than your highs in the midwest states.  Bring long sleeves but also bring shorts.  It’s the best weather you will find in the US right now. Promise!

One Dollar Bid, Now Two, Two, Would You Give Me Two?

The third weekend in January is all about car auctions.  Whether you go to the giant, star-studded, televised Barrett Jackson in North Scottsdale or head over to the sexy, intimate muscle cars of Russo and Steele at Salt River Fields.  You have two huge car auctions going on the weekend of January 18-20.  These are not the only car auctions happening.  There are Mecum, Gooding & Co, RM Sotherbys and Bonhams are all happening as well. Check out Experience Scottsdale for more information on the auctions.  The auctioneers are most entertaining at Russo and Steele in my opinion.

DIG Scottsdale TasteAbout at Kierland Commons

TasteAbout Scottsdale at Kierland Commons

A foodie event is sandwiched (get it) between the weekend of Barrett Jackson and the Phoenix Open on January 26th.  This event is put on by AZ Food & Wine and is in the Kierland Commons in “North” Scottsdale.  Access over 50 restaurants, wineries, breweries and distilleries while strolling the beautiful Kierland Commons.  This is a win. It’s also a great way to prep your liver for the copious amounts of drinking that will happen at WMPO!

Waste Management Phoenix Open 2019

Billed as The Greatest Show on Grass the Phoenix Open is the place to be.  You can call it the Waste Management Phoenix Open but #WMPO is what most people will be tagging.  The actual event is Thu-Sun Jan 28th – Feb 3rd.  This event is beyond words, but it is the party to end all parties on a golf course. Wear something awesome, opt for wedges over stilettos and bring your drinking buddies.  Saturday everyone is encouraged to wear green.

DIG Scottsdale Birds Nest Any Given Night

After Drinking At WMPO Go To Bird’s Nest

The fun doesn’t stop after pretending to watch golf at the Phoenix Open.  When you’re ready to get your groove on, walk over to the Bird’s Nest. This is a temporary structure that’s like a huge tent that is set up for concerts.  The Coor’s Light Bird’s Nest is a must-go event.  Find your genre of music and hope there are still tickets left.

  • Wednesday, Jan. 30: Old Dominion, Midland and Brandon Lay
  • Thursday, Jan. 31: Jake Owen, Lee Brice and Michael Ray
  • Friday, Feb. 1: The Chainsmokers and Snoop Dogg
  • Saturday, Feb. 2: Martin Garrix, DJ Vice and Justin Mylo

Food Festivals Coming Up

There are a lot of foodie events happening. Check this site frequently for updates. The Street Eats Food Truck Festival is at Salt River Fields February 16th.

The Scottsdale Burger Battle at the Waterfront will be happening in March 22nd. This event is put on by the Scottsdale League For The Arts and should be awesome! I’ll be there.

Also but the Scottsdale League for the Arts is the Scottsdale Culinary Festival. This event is all weekend April 13-14.

There’s More Than Just Scottsdale

There are plenty more events all over the Phoenix Metro but DIG focuses primarily on Scottsdale events. With the exception of a couple out of town restaurants like the one in Frisco, Texas. Check us out often for more updates!
